How to Reach Kashmir
Kashmir is well connected and it’s easy for tourists to reach there. The valley is well connected to major cities of India via Air, Rail and Road.
By Train
There are no direct trains to reach Kashmir but the nearest railway station to reach Kashmir are Jammu, Udhampur and Katra in Jammu Division and they are well connected to several major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Pune. However, Udhampur is the nearest railway station to get to Kashmir valley. From Udhampur, hire a cab or travel through bus to Banihal. Witness the only 'hanging' railway in Kashmir Valley from Banihal to Baramulla, which serves the cities of Anantnag and Srinagar en-route. It is expected that in few years, the link from Banihal to Katra shall be completed, which will connect Kashmir to the rest of the Indian rail network.
Note: The railways in the valley are prone to disruption. In case of protests or disruption, as railway equipment has been damaged in the past, the railways are frequently temporarily shut down.
By Road
Road trip is one of the popular options from nearby cities as route to Kashmir is breath-taking. From Jammu, various places in Kashmir are 6-8 hours by road. If self-drive is not an option, you can also hire a taxi or take a bus from New Delhi. Though the travel time via road is approx. 20 hours but travellers still prefer the road trip as from Jammu the landscapes tends to get very interesting. On your road trip you can relish the famous Rajma Chawal in Peerah and Pattisa(sweet made in Ghee) in Kudd.
